Three Disadvantages to Using a Transcription Service to Write Your eBook

Many internet marketers suggest that the best way to write is just to speak. That is rather than type your eBook, to record it -- either as a seminar or as a fast method to write an eBook. Their reasoning is based on the fact that a person usually can type at sixty to seventy words a minute but they can talk at roughly 200 words per minute.

If you prefer speaking over writing, there are two main techniques you can use. One method is to use a memo recorder. These are small portable recording machines. They used to be tape based and you can still find some that are. However, the more modern ones are digital and record MP3 format or one of the proprietary formats like Microsoft's WMA. By the way, you can also add a microphone to your computer and use it as a very expensive digital voice recorder.

Once you have made the recording, you can send the recording off to a transcription service. A digital voice recorder makes this easier because you can send the MP3 by email or through a website. They will then, for a fee, convert the recording to a text document.

However, if you do use this technique there are a number of disadvantages you need to be aware of.

If you are using a transcription service, you are going to have to wait for them to transcribe the recording. As a result, you are going to have a problem with daily editing. You just won't be able to get the benefits from it. You also need to be, at least nominally, comfortable using the computer in order to send them the file. Don't get too worried about this. It's very simple and the transcription service should, at a minimum, point you to a video that will help.

In addition, their services are not free. For a reputable company you are going to pay between $60 and $120 per hour roughly (meaning $0.10 - $0.20 per word for most of us or $200-$400 for a standard book). Of course, there are always cheaper alternatives and prices may have changed, so you need to shop around.

We are pleased to offer dictation transcription services to both businesses and individuals. Our experts of audio transcribers & Video Transcription Services will undertake transcription of a variety of dictation across a wide range of disciplines including notes, transcribing correspondence, business reports, contracts, minutes, personnel appraisals, legal documents, and surveys.

You should always test the service with a small job first. After all, you don't want to find they take 3 months to get your book back to you or send a transcription filled with spelling errors. Or worse, grammatical errors that aren't your fault! To and too are two different words. But many transcription services seem to have a problem with recognizing that oddity of English. Not to mention the many other examples of homonyms.
